The Proudest Moment of My Life

                                                                                                    國三辛
                                                                                        李翌林

When I was little, I always hated to write poems. I thought that writing poems was a waste of time
because every time when there’s an assignment about poetry, I rarely finished it. I always wanted to
escape from the lines and words that built up poems. However, every time I tried to escape, I failed.
Why? Because there’s always one person who would catch me escaping and put me back to the work, and
that person was--my mother. My mother was an experienced Chinese teacher. She knew many things
about poetry. To her, writing a poem is just like eating a piece of cake. So whenever I was writing a
poem, I could turn to her. Whenever I went to her for help in poetry, she never refused my request.
One day my teacher assigned us to write a poem of any topic we liked. Without hesitation, I ran
to my mother for help, but my mom told me to think of a topic before she could help me. At first I
couldn’t think of any, but then I thought of my ability to play the piano and decided that it could be the
best topic. All of a sudden, ideas started coming to me. I began to write a poem about piano after I
got back to my desk, and I submitted the paper to my teacher the next day. A few months later, I was
summoned by my teacher, and she informed me that I had won the second place of the poetry contest.
Overcome by amazement, I was totally speechless because I couldn’t believe what had just happened.
A few days later, when I was on the stage receiving the award, I looked at my mother in the seat
below, and she gave me a smile back. I felt so proud for myself. It’s probably the proudest moment of
my life. The thing that I’m proud of is not only the award, but also the best person in the world that I
              am really thankful for--my mother.

The Hardest Decision of My Life

                                                                                                     國三辛
                                                                                        曾宥臻

Have you ever made a hard choice throughout your life? Life consists of a series of choices. They
could be easy and simple, but at the same time, they may also be difficult and vital. For instance,
everyone has to choose an occupation in life. This is an example of a hard choice which has a long-
              lasting impact on us.
There are many moments when you have to make a choice. When I was in the 7th grade, I made
my hardest decision ever. It was a going home weekend, and I took home a declaration of parental
consent about whether to join the international class. I never thought of this before, and I only got
three days to make my decision. I asked my parents for their advice. They didn’t say much about it, but
I knew that they would support my decision and try their best to grant my wish like they always did. The
options for me are clear, either to join the international class or not. If not, I still had to choose between
going abroad and staying in Taiwan for university. This bothered me for days, and at last, I chose not to
worry too much and study in the international class.
I would consider this a difficult choice because it was very crucial for me. It is greatly related to
my future and where I will go for college. Not many people think of their
future seriously at the age of twelve, so it made me hesitate for a long
time. However, since Putai offers us a lot of extracurricular activities,
such as English drama competition, foreign language night, and music
concert, which no other school does, I never regret my decision. Moreover,
the foreign language center provides a complete and well-developed
curriculum that can later be included in my college application.

I feel lucky making this decision, and I have no doubt that I join the
international class. A good choice can lead to a huge success; conversely,
a bad choice can result in a great loss. In short, making a right choice is
very important, and that may affect a huge part of your life.
