My Cell Phone and I

                                                                                                                                     高一己 楊紫莛

In modern times, cell phones have become a daily essential to us and we care for it like a mother
cares for her child. Phubbers, nowadays, are appearing more and more frequently. Sadly I myself am a
phubber, too. As my cell phone plays an important role in my life, I have learned to accept the positive
and negative sides of it.

How can something be so worthy yet so worthless at the same time? My cell phone and I indeed have
a love-hate relationship. When there is love, we depend on each other, but when there is hate, I wouldn’t
even dare to touch my cell phone. By love, I mean the cell phone is beneficial to me in some ways. For
example, my cell phone gives me the swift accessibility when I want to call my family, look for information
online, or just simply scroll through social media. However, when that love turns into hate or that benefit
turns into a disadvantage, my cell phone may be dead to me, and play the lead role of “the bad guy”
in my play. How my cell phone influences me in a road that only goes down is just unthinkable. In my
opinion, the disadvantages that cell phones bring to me may include: causing health problems from
its radiation, isolation from the outside world, and last but not least, not spending and cherishing time
properly. In my perspective, the disadvantages I mentioned above have not only turned from a prediction
into a fact for me but also probably to all cell phone addicts.

In conclusion, though cell phones play an important part in our lives, we have to use it in the right
way. More specifically, we have to acknowledge its pros and cons. I believe when Steve Jobs invented a
cell phone, he meant for convenience. But unfortunately as technology evolves, the “convenience” brings
out disadvantages as well. So, while we enjoy the handiness of cell phones, we have to keep in mind their
potential harms.

Would I Choose to Keep a Pet Dog?

                                                                                                                                                高二乙 吳姿穎

Since long time ago, dogs have always been human’s best friends. In modern times, many of us still
keep pet dogs in our house. Recently, more and more people are even affected by movies or celebrities to
keep pets. In my opinion, I would not say yes to a furry dog. Not that I hate dogs, or that I am afraid of
dogs, it is just that I am too lazy to keep one. Keeping a dog means to take care of it all the time. I may
not be able to sleep well every night; I may not have the time to play with it; I may not have any personal
space or time (since dogs are very loyal, they might follow me wherever I go……)

Of course, I know dogs are cute, dogs are smart and dogs are those who can always keep my secret.
But the most serious problem of keeping a dog is that I am afraid of its death. I don’t think I can get
through the sorrow caused by separation. Since dogs’ lives are seven times shorter than humans’, they
tend to die before their owners do. Losing a friend is devastating; losing a family member is even worse.
As dogs are more likely to be family members nowadays, I don’t think I can bear the kind of sorrow.

To sum up, I regard dogs as cute, sweet, and lovely animals, but just for appreciation. I would not
keep a pet dog of my own.
