Problems Are Opportunities in Disguise

                                                                                                                                  高二庚 蕭巧昱

As the saying goes, “Failure is the mother of success. ” Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the founding father of Republic of
China, failed ten times in his revolutions, but finally he succeeded in his eleventh trying. Edison, who had
experienced over hundreds of failures, but eventually created great inventions which make great influences even
on people today. We may have varieties of failures or problems in our lives, but those failures and problems
could become opportunities which make ourselves grow. The most important thing is that we learn from the
trials and errors during the problem-solving process. In fact, we not only can learn from the difficulties but also
create our own opportunities of the unpredictable yet promising future.

I have been a shy person since my childhood, and never have any experience to perform on the stage in
front of a crowd. It has never occurred to me that my shyness could affect my life or future, so I have never
really paid any attention to it. However, maybe it is that Heavens want to give me a challenge. I was chosen as
one of the members of our school chorus. I was shocked and was very anxious because I thought I did not have
enough courage to perform in front of others. I called my dad and even cried for my “bad luck” of being chosen.
Despite my whining, I still went into the chorus and began my singing life. I was extremely shy and dare not
sing at first. After numerous practices, I learnt the happiness of singing and even went onto the stage to
perform a solo show. Now I still do my singing in private and have been doing public performances for over ten
times. While I plan my singing competition for next week, I gradually realize what I have learned during these
past days. I think we should never be afraid of the difficulties or any new attempts because we never know what
we will gain at last. Trying solving problems during the process, we will be satisfied to find a transformed person
in the end because problems are always the opportunities in disguise!

The Performance Which Impressed Me Most

                                                                                                                                  高三庚 陳 婷

It happened on the day when I turned fourteen. My parents decided to take the whole family for a trip to
celebrate my birthday. We decided to go for the mountains as autumn would be the best timing to admire all the
breathtaking views taking place in the hidden forest.

My father drove straight into the mountains. After we finished the winding mountain roads, we finally
arrived at an elegant waterfall streaming down the cliff into a clear pond. Next to the pond, there were paths for
passengers to reach into the mountains. The source of the waterfall was a stream from the mountains, and the
path was built along its side. We took a walk into the mountains along the path in an andante-like tempo, while
appreciating the beautiful scenery offered by our mother earth. Nevertheless, as we encountered another pond,
we felt an extremely indescribable atmosphere. As we approached it, we saw birds chirping and water flowing
around us. The surroundings are hard to be depicted as silent; however, we felt the serenity. The Wind started
to blow and leaves were falling from the trees. Suddenly hundreds and thousands of butterflies flew into the
air, and stirred up a golden storm as their yellow wings flapped. Standing in the midst of the incredibly beautiful
scenery, we were all hushed to silence yet with our vision fully inspired.

It was the most impressive performance that I have ever seen. And it was also the best birthday present
anyone can ever have from our mother earth.
