The Responsibility of the Young People
國三辛 李奕昕
Young people will form the nucleus of a society and they will be the backbone of our
country in the future. In my opinion, young people should be responsible for what they say
and do in order to cultivate a sense of responsibility.
First of all, teenagers should learn as much as they can in order to build up knowledge
and abilities they need in the future. Yet, before that, they need to cultivate moral virtues
such as honesty and sincerity. They also need to look after their conduct by constant self-
reflection and examination. In fact, learning and studying can be meaningful only when there
are honesty and sincerity.
After graduating from schools, young people have to be more responsive to the needs
of their parents and children. Since family plays an important role in our lives, young people
need to develop and maintain a harmonious family life. In fact, family harmony not only
brings in prosperity but also increases individual work efficiency. What’s more, having a good
quality family life helps establish a peaceful and steady society.
As young people grow up, they should devote themselves to social welfare through
volunteering, joining community services and showing concerns for the disadvantaged
minority groups. For example, instead of enjoying a luxurious retirement lifestyle, Bill Gates
contributes his time, energy and resources to various charity activities and events. He and
his wife Melinda Gates are the co-founders of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The
primary aims of this world’s largest private foundation are to enhance healthcare and reduce
extreme poverty. The foundation also gives many people financial support such as the
Gates Cambridge Scholarship, which provides financial assistance to more than one hundred
students to study in Cambridge University every year.
Generally speaking, it is young people’s responsibility to create a better society. They
determine whether a society prospers or not. Therefore, young people should be responsible
for cultivating their minds, taking care of their families, and devoting themselves to bettering
the lives of people throughout the world.
