The thin soap slips 小小一塊香皂
And slithers like a shark under the ships. 滑落船底，像鯊魚般游移環繞。
My toes are on the soap-dish—that’s the effect 腳趾輕觸皂盒─全因自家風浪
Of my huge storms; an iron steamer’s wrecked. 無堅不摧，鋼鐵汽船同樣遭殃。
The soap slides round and round; 香皂巡行，一回又一回，
He’s biting the old sailors, I expect.... 正大口啃咬年邁水手，我猜想……
I wonder what it feels like to be drowned? 我好奇溺水究竟是什麼滋味？

[ 註 ] A bull-of-Bashan 在許多中譯版本裡都被譯為「巴珊巨牛」或「巴珊蠻牛」，語出聖經詩篇，意指粗暴橫行的異教徒。
慣例上，專有名詞的確是可用音譯，但此處若能找到譯者自身文化裡的相似典故，應更能造福在地讀者。

一朝選在君王側； she was one day chosen to be by the king's side.
回眸一笑百媚生， Turning, glancing, smiling, she invoked myriad charms,
六宮粉黛無顏色。 making the concubines' powdered faces look undyed.
