 A Proud Achievement

             When I was in my second year of senior high
       school, I was appointed by my teacher to take part
       in a calligraphy contest held by the government. It
       was my first time to join a nation-wide competition.
       At first I was very scared because I thought I
       didn’t have enough capacity to participate in this
       contest and I was much younger than all the
       other contestants. Most important of all, I had
       no confidence that I could win any prize. If that
       happened, it would be so shameful for me and
       my school. However, with my calligraphy teacher’s
       encouragement, I plucked up my courage and went
       all for it. I spent more time practicing the copybook
       for calligraphy and discussing with my teacher to
       improve my writing skill.

             The contest finally came, and before I started
       my competition, my teacher told me to relax and
       stay calm. Once the competition began, I tried my
       best to write. Without any wandering thought, I
       focused on the characters and wrote them down
       carefully. Eventually, I got the second prize. I was so
       happy with the result and proud of myself. Although
       I did not get the first prize, I was so glad because I
       defeated my fear.

     A Change Brought by Technology

     In recent years, drastic progress of technology is such that modern people’s concept differs from the previous
generations. Everything is forced to be refined if it is not convenient or attractive enough and it is no surprise
to see the news that the company of Encyclopedia Britannica is facing a sales difficulty,
caused by the inconveniences of the reference book: large, heavy, and expensive.

     After the company has announced their termination of the printed encyclopedia, many
observers have expressed their nostalgia for the long-recognized product. However, for
the company, a revolution in marketing strategy is their only solution to their finances.
It is said that the company has turned to online version of their product. The executives
of Encyclopedia Britannica are confident, by turning to technology, which offers more
interaction and eye-catching functions, this acclaimed product will attract more users and
regain their previous glory.
