Winter of a Lifetime ∣ 國三己 陳洛心 ∣

It was a cold winter day so I decided to sleep in. I had a warm blanket, a comfortable bed, and an amazing 英
heater. Everything was perfect for a nice long sleep. I was sure nothing would wake me up. Then the phone 語
rang. “Ring, ring! Ring, ring!” I picked it up. “Hello?” I said, almost half asleep. “Get up and start packing! We’re 寫
going to Tahoe!” A girl screamed. It was Tori, my closest friend. “Uh...huh...Okay...” I replied, then hung up 作
.Before I knew it, I was fast asleep again. “Ding Dong!” The loud door bell irritated my ears, so I got up to see
who it was. It was Tori, all happy and excited. I unlocked the door and she barged in to help me pack.

We sat in the car for 8 hours doing nothing but staring out through the window and trying to conserve our
own body heat. “Why did I agree to come?! It’s so cold... I want to sleep…” I said. Tori didn’t say anything,
instead she just continued staring out with window. Though, from the reflection in the window, I saw a little
smirk grow across her face. I rested my head against the cool glass and slowly drifted into sleep.

We finally got to “Homewood Ski and Snowboard Resort.” All ready in our heavy snow suits, we brought
down the boards and made our way up to the first hill. On the top, my heart failed. There was no way I was
going down this thing. I was almost certain that Tori accidentally took me to the wrong hill. Then she helped
me strap on the board to my feet. She taught me how to control the direction I wanted to go, and the speed.
When I got a steady hang of it, she pushed me down. I was racing past everyone. Then the tip of my board
caught some snow and I fell face first into what seemed like a big white pile of frozen fluff. When I finally
caught my breath, I looked up to see Tori laughing so hard, she was crying. Even through her jokes and
nonsense, she was still determined to teach me. We spent hours and hours just going up and down different
easy slopes. Eventually, I got it. I understood all the tricks and how to move my feet.

After all that exhausting work, we decided to eat. The food was great, but it was difficult to eat with
frostbitten lips. We sat on the deck just eating and talking until we finished our food. “Ready?” Tori asked.
“Ready.” I relied. With a simple nod of the head, we grabbed our boards and strapped them on. The winter of a
lifetime began with a satisfying “click” as the board made one with my feet.

Joining English Drama ∣ 國三己 吳雨秦 ∣

D-Ring! D-Ring! The phone rang, I picked it up and heard someone at the end saying “Congratulations, you
have been chosen to join the English drama. Please come to the auditorium tomorrow.’’ I jumped up with joy
and started shouting with happiness. I was so excited that I couldn’t wait till the next day.

When I arrived in the auditorium, I saw many teachers discussing and students like me staring in silence.
Everyone was nervous and a bit scared. I looked around the auditorium. I was surrounded by freezing air;I
started to shiver and thought that I had arrived in another world full of people whom I didn’t really know.
Finally, the teachers came to rescue me. They broke the silence and tried to introduce everybody. The time went
past and most of us had known each other. Then the hardest part was practicing the role. Practicing the role is
really difficult. If you say the wrong words‚ people must accompany you to act all over again. The pressure is
really big and I finally understood that performing in a show is such a tiring thing to do. After all this practicing,
we were ready to represent the school in the 2010 English Drama Contest.

Hooray! Yippee! We were the champions! We burst out with tears and shouted until we were hoarse. In my
mind, all I thought was this, “We deserve it!’’
