What do you think friendship really means? We know we can look it up in the dictionary and read
the meaning. However, a dictionary only supplies written meanings on friendship. It does not give us a
clear picture. Friendship cannot be understood through sentences or statements alone. In fact, genuine
friendship means sharing and helping.
All our lives, we need friends with whom we can share our feelings. We will share every moment of
happiness and sadness with our friends. While sharing, we can express ourselves without hiding anything.
I remembered one time when I was really upset and didn’t want any help from my friends. My best friend
kept trying to cheer me up. She made goofy faces at me and told me jokes just to make me laugh. She
succeeded in the end. After calming me down, she asked me what was wrong and gave me some useful
tips. I feel really grateful to have a friend like her. She cares for me all the time and always acts like my
big sister at the right moment.
There is an old saying,” A friend in need is a friend indeed.” Helping friends when they need you is
what a true friend should do. When our friends encounter troubles, we should help them without the
slightest hesitation. Once, my best friend misplaced a necklace, which was very valuable to her. She
panicked, so I helped her at once. We searched for it everywhere. In the end, we found it in a drawer of

語 In conclusion, sharing and helping are what friendship is about. Friendship doubles our joys, and
寫 divides our sorrows. Friendship is the most wonderful thing in life and I think it is a gift from god to all of
作 us because it helps us share our good and bad times with our friends.
How to Face a Challenge 國三己 楊昆霖
There is a saying, “When life gives you lemons, you can make lemonades.” Life is tough. No one
has a perfect life and people encounter challenges every day. Challenges test our abilities. How to face
challenges becomes one of the most important issues in our lives. Therefore, in order to succeed, we have
to overcome challenges. When we face challenges, we need to be strong mentally and physically. Both are
basic elements to conquer life’s difficulties.
Mental perseverance can help people go on. A person who can show persistence is one who can
succeed finally. On the other hand, if a person doesn’t have spiritual strength, he or she will be defeated
by challenges. For example, Erik Weihenmayer is blind, but he reached the summit of Mount Everest.
Climbing Mount Everest was almost impossible for Erik Weihenmayer. However, his iron will made him fight
the terrible climate and fulfill his dream.
Physical endurance is also very important for people to face challenges. Remarkable powers of
endurance come from healthy bodies. Therefore, having a strong body is essential. Weihenmayer’s strong
physical condition helped him climb up to the summit of Mount Everest.
I have faced some challenges before. For instance, when I was in seventh grade, I was a
representative in a running competition for sixteen-hundred meters. To finish the race, I needed both
physical and mental strength. In the first half of the race, it was a physical challenge. But for the last part
of the race, it was a mental challenge. Although I felt very, very tired near the end, I insisted on finishing
it and I made it.
In conclusion, the best way to face the challenges of life is to have strong spirits and bodies. Without
them, no one can defeat these challenges. Challenges often take place in our everyday lives. Thus, in
order to face them bravely, we need to train ourselves to be strong mentally and physically.
